Global Off-Site Document Management Services was a $100 million plus annual revenue group at Xerox, providing a variety of outsourced services to the Fortune 1000 client base. It controlled 12 Xerox Document Technology Centres in the United States and was linked into 40 other Xerox and/or vendor operated facilities worldwide. Services included: Digital Fulfillment Services, Transaction Document Services, Imaging and Digital Repository Services, Special Projects, and Internet Document Services.
As Chief Technologist of the group, worked in conjunction with the National Technology Manager to define and implement an Application Service Provider model of services delivery. All data and documents were managed and stored centrally with global distributed production. Participated in the definition of all architecture, data center, application, hardware, software, networking and security standards. Led technology and vendor research and assessments. Negotiated vendor contracts in both pricing and service level agreements. Worked with vendors to specify and procure hardware and software systems across the enterprise. Led a project re-engineering team on a multi-million dollar effort to provide a global, distributed, multi-language, variable data print-on-demand solution that enabled real-time and production printing of SAP documents in support of Owens Corning's global SAP install. Application was split into four areas: parsing of real-time data streams generated from SAP with mapping to form layouts, global distributed real-time printing to over 1000 printers on Owens Corning's internal network, distributed production printing in the United States and Europe, and real-time archiving of all documents generated. The archived documents were presented to Owens Corning's Customer Service Department over a customized web interface and specialized search routines. The system ran on a Sun Enterprise 5000 server and used Oracle 8 as the back end database. Delivered the project on time and within customer specifications. Defined system hardware, software and networking architectures. Assisted with various other projects and customer proposals, including a customer marketing materials distribution system to support the Owens Corning 1-800-GET-PINK call center. Managed daily IT operations issues and coordinated problem resolution.
